Title

Hefner Gap

Description

On September 28, 1780, when the Overmountain militia leaders at Gillepie Gap decided to split their forces to descend the eastern face of the Blue Ridge Mountains, colonels Shelby and Sevier took their men by the more northerly route toward North Cove. They backtracked along Grassy Creek and the North Toe River to follow Rose Creek and Little Rose Creek upstream to Hefner Gap (also Heffner). From there they descended over 1300 feet to North Cove where they camped along Hunnycutt's Creek.
