Title

Surry Muster Field

Description

The Surry County militia mustered by Major Joseph Winston gathered along Elkin Creek near the Yadkin River. That field, the Surry Muster Field, is today a city park in Elkin, NC. As the Surry County militiamen marched upstream along the north side of the Yadkin River, they were joined by Colonel Benjamin Cleaveland and the Wilkes County militia. Together they numbered about 350 men.

The Surry Muster Field is the trail head for the eastern leg of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail.
